Chai's journey from street to sweet! 🏡

It's Donor Match December 2024, and we are fortunate to have anonymous donors pledging to match all donations to Stray Cat Blues Inc., dollar for dollar, up to $40,000 from now until December 31, 2024.

You see a cat wandering around outside. What do you think? Is this someone’s outdoor cat? Is this a stray or abandoned cat? A feral cat born outdoors? Sometimes it’s hard to tell. In Chai’s case, we knew right away that he was abandoned.

Chai was rescued from a cat colony in East Greenville. He was living outdoors at this colony for at least the past two years, very likely more. Fortunately, there was a kind person who fed him and other stray cats in the area. The feeder became concerned as they noticed he was being bullied by the other cats and not thriving.

Stray Cat Blues got him into foster care as soon as possible when we were notified about him. He was immediately treated for fleas and ear mites and dewormed. Chai was friendly, previously neutered and had no ear tip, so we assumed he had at one time belonged to someone. A visit to the vet was arranged. He was scanned for a chip and none was found. After a thorough exam, vaccinations and a good ear cleaning, the vet estimated him to be between 6 to 8 years old. We had no idea how long Chai had been on his own. How he came to be at that colony will probably always be a mystery.

Even though Chai had a very tough life for the last few years, you would never know that by his personality. He really seemed to enjoy human company and was grateful to be safe inside. His adorable personality began to emerge. After being bullied for so long, he lacked confidence and made it clear that he was afraid of other cats. We needed to find just the right home for him, where he would feel safe and loved.

The babies grew into plump, loving little kittens, all adopted out to forever homes. And mama? The kind woman who contacted us decided to take mama in after she was spayed and the babies were weaned. She was willing to give her all the time she needed to warm up to a life indoors. We set her up with a crate and plenty of socializing advice. Mama is now enjoying her first Christmas as a spoiled house cat!

We were thrilled when his special person finally came along - someone with patience and an understanding of the reassurance he will need to feel secure again.

Through no fault of his own, Chai fell on hard times. He was scared, lonely and had an uncertain fate. Now his life is full of love and security - No more cold winters outdoors without shelter.

Chai is just one of the many faces that get us up each day and help us realize that we serve a greater purpose than ourselves.

We couldn't save as many lives as we do without the passion and dedication of our wonderful volunteers and the generous contributions from our donors.

So far, this Donor Matching December we were able to raise just over $15,000! There are just a few more days left in December and your contributions are needed to help us reach our goal of $40,000 and help as many cats and kittens as we can throughout Bucks, Lehigh Valley, Montgomery and other suburban Philadelphia counties.
